Minister Jonathan Shaw

Jonathan Shaw has been Labour member of Parliament for Chatham and Aylesford in Kent since 1997. He has been a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs since 29 June 2007 and his responsibilities cover marine and fisheries, rural affairs, landscape and local environment quality. He is also the Minister for the South East.

Jonathan attended West Kent College and Bromley College. After completing a course in social care he qualified as a social worker in 1990, and initially worked for Kent County Council. In 1993 he became a Rochester City Councillor, representing Chatham.

Prior to his current role Shaw was an Assistant Government Whip, and made some notable appearance in his last few months in the job, telling the House of Commons the result of the numerous divisions on the House of Lords reforms.
