The press are calling Human influenza A type H1N1, which has been circulating in Mexico and is now spreading, Swine Flu, but this strain of HINI does not appear to be present in pigs in the UK or anywhere else in the EU and there have been no reports of unusual disease in pig herds. The Growing Schools Programme is delighted to announce that it will be holding its second national conference “Get Your Hands Dirty” at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, on the 23rd March 2009. Farms for Schools

FFS aims to ensure that school trips to farms are safe, enjoyable and educationally worthwhile. Four Farms for Schools members were included in the"Five best Farms for Kids" article in the Saturday Guardian on 31.01.09. Cotswold Farm Park in Glos, Odds Farm Park in Bucks, Mead Open Farm in Beds and Cannon Hall Farm in South Yorks. Click here to see article.

All FFS members meet the required standards in the provision of facilities and educational resources for farm visits.

These include Health and Safety, current employers liability insurance and adequate toilet and hand washing facilities. Livestock on farms have to be attended by a vet at regular intervals.
